Rugs!

Rugs!

We’re making progress on the living room! I have a trim update / tutorial to post in the next week or so, but for now let me share with you my mini panic attack also known as shopping for rugs on the internet.

I love the internet. I love shopping on the internet, but sometimes it can be a bit overwhelming. If you search for “area rugs” on wayfair.com you get NINETY THOUSAND results. Narrow it down to 10’x14′ rugs, and there are still 8,000 or so. Then, go ahead and shop on at least 4 other websites to make sure you’ve seen all the rugs. Even with a pretty small budget for such a large rug, we still had 2,000+ options on each of the bigger websites. That, my friends, is how you completely stress yourself out shopping for rugs online.

I spent weeks combing through rugs and pinning whatever caught my eye. I had a bit of a hard time narrowing down what rug to buy because my taste doesn’t necessarily line up with what’s realistic for a house with 3 cats, a dog and a temporary (maybe?) cat. While combing through thousands of rugs I kept gravitating towards white/light rugs, and then all Douglas would have to say was “cat barf,” and I was right back to reality. But look at all of them!

I really like all of the graphic/geometric rugs, but they also tend to have a lot of white in them, and… cat barf.

I eventually realized that I needed to push myself out of my comfort zone and find something that was more realistic for our life. Most of our furniture is pretty neutral so I wanted something with some color that wouldn’t show every stain / speck of pet hair on it. Enter vinatage-ish rugs!

None of these are heirloom rugs that are going to last forever, but for right now the price point is perfect for us. You can check out all of the rugs that I pinned here. I’ll post updated pictures of the living room soon!
